I write my thrillers under the pen name of Sam Flint.
I like to write stories where an ordinary person finds themselves in a world they don’t understand, facing opponents who are professionally equipped to deal with what is happening.
My crime thrillers have to deal with the police, but they are not police procedurals. In some, police corruption leaves my protagonist alone to solve their problem, with police intervention causing more problems than it solves.
My sci-fi/ techno thrillers deal with the problems of the near future, here on earth. I like big societal themes. DNA manipulation, Artificial Intelligence, the Surveillance Society, the Privatisation of Public Life, Digital identity v Reality, Politics v Commerce, the cost of combating terrorism. You get the idea.
If you like the work of Michael Crichton, John le Carre, Simon Kernick or Sophie Hannah, you may find echoes in my writing.
